 "Rehomed Dog Tails"
Stories written by owners who have adopted a dog from Penny Jones Animal Hospice
A chance offer of donated dog supplies led to discovering the plight of Romanian shelter dogs. One disabled puppy, later named Mouse, inspired an adoption that transformed both their lives. Rehabilitating her opened the door to a rescue journey through which more than 200 dogs have since been saved.
He wandered the streets of Macedonia, hungry and in pain, until kind people took him in. After escaping with other dogs and being returned, he began a long journey to a new life. Adopted in the UK, he faced surgeries, recovery, and endless care from his new family. Now healthy, loved, and full of joy, he thanks supporters for giving him the life he never thought possible.
Life had taught her that even in the darkest moments, someone small and hurting always needed her. She first watched Dolly and Sugar from afar, then met Smokie—now Teddy Boo—and instantly knew he belonged with her family. Loved by many, safe by the fire, his happy life feels like a quiet miracle.
Sara arrived from Romania in 2019, ready for a new home, when a hidden lump led to surgery. After a failed first placement, Linda instantly welcomed her, giving her a quiet life, a private garden, and gentle care. More lumps followed, and tests revealed aggressive mammary cancer, but Sara is determined to fight for the warm, safe life she finally has — duvet, heated room, and all.
Harry survived poisoning, years of neglect and untreated jaw fractures in a crowded Turkish shelter. Brought to the UK for help, he arrived gravely ill but won hearts instantly. After multiple surgeries and devoted care, he’s now safe, loved, and learning joy again — a gentle reminder to carry on like Harry, regardless.
The following is an article written by Colin Betts. It is an astute account of his observations of the differences between British and 'foreign' rescue dogs. Anyone who adopts a dog from us will be able to relate to this article.
