 Hoping for homes
Meet the dogs ready to swap shelter for sofa

Fetita Fetita is a little sweetie with just a little attitude. She is good on a lead.

Fetita is good with other dogs but can be a little bossy.

We don’t have any history on Fetita, but since coming to us from Romania she has settled in well and is enjoying the freedom she’s probably never had.

A home where she has a chance to settle at her pace and enjoy a quiet life would be perfect.

Bellamy Bellamy has been locked away in the public shelter of Romania for the last 6 years, finally coming to us in July.

After having some time to decompress he is getting younger by the day.

Bellamy loves being out for a walk, he is great on a lead, he is looking for a home where he will have a chance to explore and enjoy having freedom.

Panda Panda came to us from the public shelters of Romania. We don’t have any backstory for Panda, but since joining us he has become a firm favourite.

Very friendly with people, a very loving boy that’s great on a lead, Panda is looking for an active home that will continue with his training and showing him the ways of the world.

Panda likes meeting new dogs when out and about but would like all the attention in the house, so we feel an only dog home would be best.

Penny

A sensitive senior who wants a quiet life with walks
Penny is looking for her forever home after being in a trial home that sadly didn't work out. The chap who was looking after her was devastated, but unfortunately we now know that Penny is not keen on children and becomes stressed and growls at them. She also does not like cats. She needs a home where she doesn't have to meet children, and away from cats and other small pets.

What Penny needs is a quiet home where she can get lots of attention and lots of affection. In between walks, she will happily sleep on the sofa next to you, on your bed, or on your feet! She REALLY loves her walks and this should be an integral part of her daily routine - a garden to potter in would be an advantage although she would probably just curl up somewhere cosy and sleep.

Penny loves her food and forms a strong bond with her main carer. If there is more than one person in her new home, we would recommend that her care is shared between each person so that Penny doesn't become overly protective of one human.

Penny has shown her dislike of fast movements and loud noises. She is not overly confident with strangers or other dogs but is perfectly happy once she knows the dogs/people. Penny can live with another dog following successful introductions at PJAH.

She is a sweet little thing of around 10kg and is brilliant on a lead. She is fully vaccinated, has been spayed, and has had a one-sided mammary strip at some time in her life.

Penny will need an owner who can keep her groomed as her coat grows long and untidy - she is improving all the time with her tolerance of grooming and an experienced groomer will be used to wriggley, fidgety and grumbly clients!  She has the most beautiful (and unsual) hazel coloured eyes that shine bright and twinkle with love and excitement when she sees her human.  She has the most endearing way of 'woo-wooing' too as she speaks to you.

Could Penny woo-woo you too?  Please contact us.

Reilly

The wider world is a bit scary
Reilly is ten years old and before he came to PJAH he had spent his entire life in a concrete pen in a shelter in Greece. Imagine being a puppy and being thrown into a shelter and then to spend ten whole years looking at the same view (bars) and hearing the same noises (dogs barking). How awful.

Reilly is understandably nervous but has come on so well since he first arrived. He is OK on a lead and enjoys his walks once he knows the route and knows it is safe. He is frightened of new situations and new people, but with time and a caring patient owner he will become more confident.

Reilly is around 20kg and has no aggression whatsoever and he really likes the company of other dogs.

Reilly tested positive for leish but this is under control with the aid of medication (which the sanctuary will continue to fund). It would be better if Reilly could be rehomed locally so that he can continue to be monitored by the PJAH vets (Longtown & Carlisle).

Do you have the love and tenderness to help this lovely boy become more confident and be dedicated to keeping on top of his medication? Please get in touch.

Rex

I love cuddles!
Rex is a small-medium sized chap with a thick and fluffy coat. He is middle-aged although we will never know an exact age as he has travelled from Romania to a new life away from the threat of the dog catchers and kill shelters.

Rex is good with other dogs although he is quite reserved and doesn't really want to interact with them. However, in his own quiet way, we think he would probably appreciate the company of another older calm dog in his new home as he has been living with other dogs for a while. We would also consider a home where Rex is the only dog. Rex has not been cat tested.

Rex would like a home where somebody is home most of the time as he really isn't used to being alone. He is a calm and gentle boy who enjoys walks, is great on a lead, and enjoys walking with other dogs. Rex would appreciate a secure garden in his new home, where he can feel safe to potter around and keep checking in on his new family.

This lovely boy will make somebody a loyal companion - he will need time to settle and adapt to his new life and should be allowed to explore at his own pace. Once truly settled, Rex's new family will no doubt be rewarded with plenty of love, tail wags and cuddles.

Do you have a Rex sized gap in your life? If so, please get in touch.

Ricky

Young, intelligent and happy!
What a happy boy Ricky is! It hasn't taken him long to settle and his friendly nature shines through.

Ricky LOVES people. He is desperate for attention and wants to be showered with love, play and care. He has lots of energy so he needs an active home to deal with his physical and mental needs. He likes other dogs and would quite like a friend to play with - however, he really isn't very good at sharing so he needs an experienced owner or could be the only dog in his new home.

Ricky gets a bit stressed and whines/chatters if he can see you but not be with you - so he would not like to be shut out in a garden or shut in a closed room.

Ricky is a little food aggressive so would need to be fed separately from other dogs in his new home. He is only about 1-2 years old (around 25kg) and has his whole life ahead of him.

Ricky does need some guidance on how to behave with people and dogs because he is super friendly and just wants to say hello to everyone - even if he isn't invited.

Ricky needs a home with an experienced owner who can take the time to understand him. He needs some help to show him how to deal with situations calmly and practically, without punishment. As he is such a young dog and is keen to learn, he really is a blank book and ready to have his story written. As with all our dogs, we are your rescue backup to help and support you as Ricky settles into a new routine and family life.

Ricky needs a home with somebody who is around most of the day, as he is likely to get bored on his own.

As Ricky came from a public shelter we do not know any details of his past and we would not rehome him to a family with children or small pets.

Tempted?!  Go on!  Message us to come and meet this very happy cheeky character!

Scout

An older, gentle natured dog
Scout is 13 years old, tall and slim. Like Reilly, Scout has come from Greece and he too spent all of his life in a concrete pen, having been dumped in the shelter as a puppy.

Scout is gentle and kind. He weighs around 19kg but he probably should weigh more. He recently benefited from a dental and he had some teeth extracted. He had never used a food dish before so prefers to eat off of the floor - Elizabeth has been hand feeding him wet food but also puts some kibble on the floor. Hopefully he will transition to a bowl in his own time.

Scout is a bit wobbly on his legs: he has not been used to exercise and has spent his life laying and standing on concrete. His joints are a bit stiff and he is on monthly librella injections which the sanctuary will continue to fund. It would really be lovely to see this older chap in a home of his own. Ideally it would be a home locally so that he can continue to be under the care of our vet (Longtown & Carlisle).

Can you offer this chap the love he so deserves?
